In a world filled with an array of electronic devices, knowing your device’s model number is essential for many reasons. Whether you need it for troubleshooting, product registration, warranty claims, repairs, accessories or software compatibility, knowing how to find your device’s model number can save time and avoid confusion.

In this guide, we’ll show you where to find the model number on smartphones, tablets, laptops and computers.

How to Find the Model Number on Smartphones and Tablets

Finding the model number of your smartphone or tablet is usually straightforward. Here are the most common places to look:

  • Settings Menu: Open the device’s settings and look for an “About”, “About Phone” or “About Tablet” section. In most cases, the model number will be listed there.
  • On the Device: Some devices have the model number printed on the back, side or bottom of the device.
  • Inside the SIM Card Tray: On some smartphones, the model number or identifying information may be printed on or around the SIM card tray.
  • In Device Software: Some devices can also display model information when connected to a computer using the manufacturer’s software.

How to Find the Model Number on Laptops and Computers

For laptops and computers, the model number can usually be found in one of the following places:

  • On the Bottom Panel: Turn your laptop over and look for a sticker, label or printed information. The model number is often shown alongside the serial number and other product details.
  • In the BIOS or UEFI: On some PCs, the model number can be viewed in the BIOS or UEFI system information. This is normally accessed during startup using a key such as F2, F12 or Delete, depending on the manufacturer.
  • In System Information on Windows: Type “System Information” into the Start menu and open it. Look for “System Model” or “Product Name” under System Summary.
  • On Mac Computers: Click the Apple menu and select “About This Mac”. Your Mac model information will be displayed there.

Why Your Device Model Number Is Important

Knowing your device’s exact model number helps ensure you receive the correct advice, repair parts, accessories, software and compatibility information. Two devices can look very similar but use completely different components, so the exact model number is often essential when arranging a repair or requesting a quote.

Taking a moment to locate and record your device’s model number can make troubleshooting, repairs and future upgrades much easier.
